"For the upcoming BC Bike Race I am riding with the most incredible partner. We have secured two spots in the race. They are not the last two spots, but they are important spots none the less that deserve your consideration! The relationship with my partner on and off the bike continues to evolve over time. We motivate, push, and support one another. Often our moods are perfectly balanced and we ride as one. At times though we can be a few pedal strokes off from one another. Times like these are still very special as we pursue our goals knowing that the other is close by if we need them. My partner is my wife and we met through mountain biking.
Several years ago I signed up for a local mountain bike race in Utah. The registration form required me to fill in the standard data to include my e-mail address. At the time I was unaware that my address was being provided to a third party vendor. Cyclingsingles.com contacted me a few weeks later to let me know they were starting up a new social web site for cyclists. To get everything off the ground they even waived the monthly fee. With my busy work schedule and time spent training on the bike I thought I would give it a try. Needless to say the site brought my wife and me together. On our first date we discovered that we both had a strong passion for cycling especially mountain biking. Even more amazing was the fact that for the previous three years we had unknowingly lived only 7 houses apart from one another in downtown Salt Lake City.
Our first date in December was soon followed by a second and third date. Plans were conceived to participate in the Park City 12 Hour Endurance MTB Race 7 months away as a coed two person team. Dating mixed with training as we learned one anotherâ?Ts weaknesses and strengths. We pushed one another to ride harder and be stronger. Spring weather found us on road bikes riding in the shadows of the Wasatch Mountains or packing up the car and mountain bikes for extended weekends in Moab or St George.
June came quickly and the snow released its hold on the sweet single track that weaves throughout the Wasatch Mountains. I knew that I had met the most incredible woman and on June 17th of 2005 I stole her bike! Swapping out all of her components I built up a Pink Titus Racer-X for her. Pink being her favorite color she was amazed at the incredible gift. Unable to get a grasp on the situation we drove to park City and climbed up to the Mid-Mountain Trail. The single track was incredible during the climb and the sun was setting as we broke out in to an alpine meadow. We stopped to take in the view. I dropped to one knee and asked her to marry me. With a resounding yes we descended back on tight single track that led us to Park City and the brewery.
Since then we have been married and competed in the Park City 12 Hour Endurance MTB Race three times. My wife is an accomplished Sport racer and does well in the local race series in Utah. I prefer longer endurance events like the Trans Rockies and La Ruta de Los Conquistador. After recently completing La Ruta my wife was amazed by the camaraderie and the spirit surrounding these endurance events. She looked at me with determination and asked if I would be her partner in the 2008 BC Bike Race.
We are celebrating our second anniversary this year a few weeks early racing in the BC Bike Race. There are going to be highs and lows during the week. Pushing our limits, our comfort levels, and our relationship as we experience incredible single track, make new friends and continue to watch our partnership grow. Neither one of us would have it any other way!"
