On the Cusp of BCBR 2009
Wow! It seems like only yesterday that we opened registration for the third annual BC Bike Race...and here we are, less than 48 hours from the much anticipated "crack!" of the Stage One starter pistol.
On Saturday close to 400 racers will make their way to the Coast Plaza Hotel in Vancouver where they'll sign waivers, pick up their Dakine gear bags stuffed with incredible swag from our sponsors, and attach the coveted 2009 number plate to their well-tuned mountain bikes in preparation for Sunday's race start.
Our BCBR crew have been literally buzzing with activity in preparation for racers' arrival. The excitement around these parts is unreal!
For those of you eager to live vicariously through our intrepid racers next week, be sure to visit the BCBR website for daily race updates, daily stage results, and links to racers' blogs. If you can't make it to BCBR this year, we'll bring the race to you!
Welcome to New Host Towns!
We are very excited to showcase some new west coast communities as part of the 2009 BC Bike Race adventure.
A big welcome to Stage 1 community Lynn Valley, situated in the District of North Vancouver. Our Base Camp in Lynn Valley is the first ever tented camping permitted in Lynn Valley Park. Many many thanks to the District of North Vancouver Mayor and the community for embracing the spirit of BC Bike Race!
An equally big welcome to the Vancouver Island communities of Nanaimo and Parksville. As soon as racers disembark the ferry in Nanaimo, they'll hop on their bikes and race Stage 2 on some amazing singletrack all the way through to an ocean-side finish in lovely Parksville. Many thanks to these two incredibly supportive communities for enabling us to create a unqiue start line and and remarkable finish line, all in one day! And how cool for racers to be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the ocean as they dream about the amazing trails conquered on Day 2.
You're SO going to wish you were here....!
Welcome to New Title Sponsors!
BC Bike Race is delighted to announce that we have two new major sponsors for 2009.
Stage One would not be the same without North Vancouver's own Taylor's Crossing Bar & Grill as the Title Sponsor. Racers will refuel in style with a great dinner catered by Taylor's. What a way to kick off the race!
And Stage Six is fast becoming a much anticipated event of its own thanks to the generous Title Sponsorship of Shimano.
A huge shout out to these new sponsors - be sure to check them out next time you're feeling hungry in North Van or simply looking for gear no matter where you are!
