Partners

BC Bike Race is pleased to partner with the following organizations...without their support, the race would not be what it is today!

Logging

Mountain bikers should always be grateful for the timber industry which has enabled us to explore the deep back country on our favourite mode of motion. We have been very fortunate in finding great people in 3 competing logging companies who have been very helpful in making the BC Bike Race possible. In fact, if any one of them had put up resistance, there would never be a BC Bike Race.

When Denise Sakai comes into our meetings with her fancy customized maps showing us the maze of decommissioned logging roads that seem begging to be included in our point to point journey across Vancouver Island, you can watch our usually calm course managers salivating at the menu... Island Timberlands has been a key partner in providing us with permission, gate access, route planning and even postponing logging operations temporarily to allow us to pass through a dangerous area in 2007.

"Island Timberlands is pleased to provide access to our land for this exciting event! We encourage organizers and participants to respect the environment and above all to be safe. Best of luck to all the racers!"

Makenzie Leine
Manager of Sustainability and Community Affairs, Island Timberlands

Steve Lorimer and his team have been raging fans of the BC Bike Race even to the extent that they are donating $10,000 towards trail development in the area that will ultimately go towards improving the route of the BC Bike Race. Steve is lending us Sue Handel this year for cheque presentations at Day Zero and Day 3. Sue is a great choice since she is an enthusiastic mountain biker herself. Sue will be riding sweep on Day 3 to enjoy TimberWest property like she has never seen it before. We are very excited to have such huge support from TimberWest.

"TimberWest is very pleased to be involved with the BC Bike Race. As the largest private forest land owner on Vancouver Island, TimberWest recognizes that how we use our lands impacts everyone who lives, works and plays on southern Vancouver Island. Many of the logging roads and back-country trails featured during Stages 1-4 of the race are in TimberWest working forests, managed with the environment and the needs of local communities in mind. Enjoy your journey and the beauty of Vancouver Island forests along the way…we wish all racers and the organizing team a fantastic adventure."

Paul McElligott
President and CEO, TimberWest

Ian De Lisle and his team at Hancock Forest Management have always been great supporters of mountain biking in Cumberland. As you enter their land the signage reads ‘hiking and mountain biking only’. We are very grateful that when Ian was approached by BC Bike Race to incorporate their lands into the event, there was no hesitation. And now, we have some very delicious singletrack to offer you in the Cumberland area as a result.

Government agencies

Ministry of Transportation

When Holly Adems calls a meeting, she gathers all the right people, explores our fantasy wishes for our route, and finds a way to make it happen. There are only two people handling special event permits for Ministry of Transportation in all of British Columbia, so this is a busy person. But Holly always has time for the BC Bike Race, and we appreciate her guidance and help in making this as safe and smooth as possible.
