Safety Tips and Instructions

While our Course Control Team will be out there looking after you on trail, there are a number of things that you can do to help keep yourself safe while riding. Check back to this page as we update it with more information towards Race Week.

Staying on Course

While we have a number of Course Marshals and tonnes of flagging tape on the trails to keep you going in the right phonedirection, it helps to be familiar with our Course Marking Protocol to keep yourself on track. Following these guidelines, and with over 35,000ft of flagging tape on course, it'll be hard to go the wrong way out there. That said, in the event that you do go off course, just retrace your path back to the last piece of flagging tape to get back in there. In the event that you can't find your way back and don't know where you are, something that's never happened to racers in our event, we have numerous ways to track you down. You are required to check in at each Aid Station along the course, so we'll know your approximate whereabouts based on this and can send out a team to find you. You can also help us by using one of the following smart phone apps to get your whereabouts and either call us with the coordinates or email the coordinates directly to our Course Control Team at safety@bcbikerace.com - iPhone - Android - Blackberry - Windows Mobile.

Bring the Right Gear

Out on the trails, you should be prepared to deal with all situations and a wide range of weather conditions. On top of your typical cycling gear, we've developed a list of mandatory gear that each person needs to have on them at all times. This list includes a rain shell, the ability to carry two litres of water with you, a whistle, emergency food, a pressure dressing, and waterproof matches.
