BC Bike Race

"I'd like to nominate my wife, Sierra van der Meer, for an entry into BC Bike Race as someone who makes mountain biking happen in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Sierra has been an an executive member of the Contagious Mountain Biking Club for the past three years, a period where mountain biking has been exploding in our community. She's helped with many projects including our new Jay Hoots skills park, trail development, organizing, leading CMBC and Dirt Girls club rides and writing grant and funding proposals.

Sierra was the chief organizer for the Yukon championship King of the Canyon race last year, keeping everything running smoothly and still found time to race the the 25km short course, finishing as the top female -- on her singlespeed.

She also obtained funding and organized a youth helmet campaign featuring an appearance by trials rider Ryan Leech. Along with promoting helmet use, hundreds of free helmets were given out to local riders over the course of the summer.

She's a main organizer for our 24 Hours of Light event. Two years ago she rode a 2:00 am lap, wearing a fairy costume, before heading off to spend four hours cooking a hot breakfast for 200 hungry riders.

She's the kind of girl who'll show up at cyclocross race riding a Pugsley, wearing a wedding dress and full face helmet:

Sierra loves to ride all year round and is happy to share her energy, talents and stoke with our growing riding community. I think she'd be an amazing choice for a BC Bike Race Entry." - Anthony DeLorenzo
