I would like to nominate Dave Pearson of Revelstoke for the Kazlaw Award.

Dave is a part-time mountain biking guide, a full-time crew leader with Little Big Works, a local trail building company.  He is also a Skookum Bike Shop mechanic, and a volunteer firefighter here in Revelstoke. He is involved with the Revelstoke Cycling Association, as the Director for Trail Maintenance, and spends every Tuesday night volunteering to build and maintain trails with other bike enthusiasts in the community. Also a knowledgeable bike shop mechanic, Dave is the instructor of bike maintenance courses.

Dave is a passionate mountain biker with a pretty impressive background in urban and trials riding! He helps lead the ‘Pedal and Pint’ ride each week, and he can be seen biking around town on any given day of the year, even plowing through huge snow banks in the middle of winter.

Employed by Parks Canada, I had the pleasure of working with Dave and his crew in the construction of Mount Revelstoke National Parks’ ‘Beaver Lodge Bike Park’, one of Canada’s first children’s interpretive bike skills park.  His passion for the sport and enthusiasm for the project helped make it a successful one.

The Beaver Lodge Bike Skills Park is designed to be a fun flowing bike skills park, with interpretive learning elements, visually appealing and great location. It includes progressive skill elements and stunts to make a fun biking experience as well as hand-sculpted and carved ‘creature features’ which add to an interpretive learning experience.

Dave’s knowledge and expertise in trail building helped us solve some unique trail building challenges, and create a unique area for children and families to discover and enjoy the beauty of mountain biking in nature. Thanks to Little Big Works, and the help of Dave and his crew, I believe these children will become our future outdoor environment and mountain biking ambassadors.

Dave is the face of mountain biking in this community and is a very kind and helpful biker with the physique of a grizzly bear.  Please consider him for this award, he truly deserves it.
